WHO: Karen Carson is a former secondary education teacher who taught high school English. After twelve-odd years of teaching at four different high schools, Karen decided that a student support services business allowed her to combine her love of working with high school and college students, her freakishly good memory for high school math, and her odd obsession with standardized testing in a way that classroom teaching did not. While she misses chaperoning the Prom, she does not miss grading papers on weekends.
WHAT: Carson Academic Consultants is committed to building confident students.
WHY: Karen believes every student has the ability to gain confidence but not every student has the necessary tools.
HOW: (1) Cultivate each student's self-awareness regarding their thinking, processing, and learning styles. (2) Facilitate improved test scores and grades through guided practice and individualized strategies. (3) Build confidence by helping students to maximize strengths and strategize around weaknesses.
WHEN / WHERE: Since the 2020 pandemic, Karen has used Zoom for her students' one hour sessions. She has found that, compared to when she met students at public locations like coffee shops or libraries, students are better able to focus on the material while in the comfort (and quiet) of their own homes. Informational seminars take place at various locations, so be sure to check the "Seminars" section of the website for specific location information.
